Last week, I shared my full-length write-up on the small but lovely Bluff Point State Park in southeastern Connecticut. In my article (which is available here in case you missed it!) I mentioned how the photos I took at Bluff Point are among my favorites in my entire portfolio. Why? Well, the weather was perfect and the park was quiet and uncrowded on the weekday morning of my visit – basically, the two most critical factors for nature photography junkies like myself. While I enjoy stormy skies and grey clouds every once and awhile, nothing beats a clear blue sky:

So much blue and green! And oh so quiet. I can absolutely confirm that the best time to visit Bluff Point is on a summer weekday morning…but would you believe me if I were to say my visit was spontaneous? Since I grew up about twenty minutes from Bluff Point, I’ve never thought of my childhood home as anything remotely resembling a tourist attraction. However, while visiting my parents this past June, I had trouble sleeping one night and, wide awake at seven in the morning, I decided to grab some Dunkin’ Donuts and bring my camera to Bluff Point.
That’s right. Dunkin’ Donuts. Every good day in New England has to start with Dunkin’.

If you’ve browsed through my other photography galleries, then you might know a close-up of a flower is a tad unusual for me. One, I have terrible pollen allergies and, two, I have a paralyzing fear of bees and wasps. But I couldn’t resist snapping a shot of this lovely flower! The vibrant pink looked almost tropical.

Now, as I write this, there’s a few inches of snow on the ground outside my Colorado abode, and I figured, hey, what better way to distract ourselves from winter than with a photo gallery of a beach during June? I have never liked winter or cold weather or the snow, so compiling this gallery successfully has me all excited for the return of warm sunshine.
The best part? Bluff Point is completely free to enter, all year round!
