Photo Of The Week
Snoqualmie Falls, July 18, 2016

“Have you seen enough waterfalls yet?” Kevin asked on Thursday afternoon as we hiked back to our car from Franklin Falls.

“Nope!” I replied, earnestly and enthusiastically.  “Why, are you starting to reach your limit?”

“Uh,” Kevin said, unwilling to come out and admit he’s craving a change of scenery.  “I mean, they’re all starting to blend together.”

While I don’t share the same sentiment (#WaterfallsForever), I can maybe understand where he’s coming from.  Already this year, we’ve visited Virginia’s Great Falls Park twice, explored six waterfalls in Iceland over a two-day period, drove to a small falls in the Luxembourg countryside, looked out over McWay Falls in Big Sur, and hiked to a snow-covered waterfall in the Rockies.  For my birthday, we hiked to two separate waterfalls in Shenandoah National Park.  And, in just the past six days, we’ve stood at the base of three separate waterfalls in the greater Seattle area.

That’s a lot of waterfalls in seven months.

This week (can you believe it’s already July 18?!), I’ve decided to appropriately feature a photograph of Snoqualmie Falls, located about thirty-five minutes outside Seattle, Washington.  When Kevin and I landed on Saturday, July 9, the skies were filled with heavy clouds that didn’t lift until Tuesday afternoon, which was when I rushed over to the falls to capture this image.  Unlike the two other waterfalls Kev and I visited last week, I’d been to Snoqualmie Falls twice before, and even so, I’m still awe-struck by its beauty.

Annnnd…so are the other approximately three hundred thousand people who visit the falls every day.  Perhaps I might be exaggerating slightly, but on weekends, crowds line the streets and fight over parking spaces just to score a glimpse of the famous waterfall.  My advice?  Visit on a weekday.  Coincidentally, the skies were clearer than any of the weekend days we’ve since spent here and yet we had no trouble parking at the falls and I didn’t have to wait ten minutes to get the photographs I wanted.

What’s on the agenda for this week when Kevin and I are done with our work?  More exploring, obviously, but I’m researching to see if there are any more waterfalls in the area accessible via a trail.  I’m addicted, what can I say?
