Photo Of The Week
Kate The Viking

I’ve had San Francisco on my brain near-constantly as of late, and this probably has something to do with the fact that, once again, I find myself on the west coast while winter begins at home.  Kevin snapped this week’s photo back in February at a beach near Daly City, an ocean-side suburb of San Francisco.  Of course, if you’re familiar with one of my well-documented obsessions, you wouldn’t be surprised to know that we visited the beach at sunset.  That silhouetted figure in the ankle-deep water is none other than yours truly.

This tiny roadside beach, and San Francisco more generally, seems too beautiful to exist in real life.  I assure you this photo isn’t altered (in fact, aside from the occasional crop/resize, I never edit any of the photographs I use on my site) or edited in any way.  The clouds visually melted into the vast ocean, and I, the child of cold North Atlantic waters, just rushed right out into the waves.

We tried to return to this beach the following day, which happened to be our last night in San Francisco, but failed miserably and wound up getting completely lost.  Can’t repeat perfection, am I right?   We’d initially stumbled upon this gem on accident; we were on our way to visit one of Kevin’s relatives for dinner, and Kevin’s mom kept texting us, asking us for our ETA.  Even though we were running late and risked coming across as rude to our generous hosts, we couldn’t help but spend a few moments in the sand.

I’m grateful that we stopped.  Sunsets have always been worth a slightly delayed arrival in my book.
